Utilizing a younger and different lineup for the first time this season, the Lady Braves volleyballers fed off a huge Homecoming crowd and a noonday start time to overwhelm the visiting Rock Springs Tigers 3-1 on Friday.
After falling behind early in the opening set, the Star Valley girls came back to pick up a 25-22 win. The second set was a back and forth battle in which the Lady Braves had a small cushion but had it evaporate late as the Tigers took it by the score of 23-25.
Tied at one set apiece, the Lady Braves put together a very scrappy surge over the next stanza as they rolled to a Set 3 win, 25-16. That momentum rolled into the fourth set as well, one in which Star Valley controlled but had to stave off a late Rock Springs rally at the end to collect the win 25-22.
The ladies got a huge game from senior Shaylah Frazier as the outside hitter but also got some big contributions along the front wall from Ady Christiansen and Avery England.
The team hosts the Jackson Lady Broncs next Friday in a return battle between the two rival schools. The match in Teton County went a full five sets with Star Valley coming out victorious.
