By the end, 2,000+ volunteer hours will be combined in this year’s efforts. Food will continue to be organized this week, including help from the SVHS Football team. SVI PHOTO/AUBREY TAYLOR

• The winning community for 2024 is Afton.

After collecting food pantry items this past week, 13,001 usable food items were donated across the upper valley. The town with the most usable donations was Afton with 3,422 items. Osmond/Fairview was second with 3,298, followed by Smoot at 3,005 and Grover/Auburn with 2,078. Unfortunately, there were 1,303 items that were expired and unusable. Sierra Mitchell, Afton Food Pantry President shared the most expired item–toilet paper from 1998.

Along with food items, hygiene items totaled to 1,931. Many hours have already gone into the Fighting for Hunger Games pantry drive, with the total estimated man hours by the end being over 2,000.

This food drive was held during the case lot sale at Broulims, helping local donors to purchase bulk items and stock shelves at the Afton Food Pantry as they prepare for their three busiest months this winter.

Anyone hoping to spend some time helping organize items on the shelves are encouraged to reach out to the pantry at (307) 887-3663.
