Independent Notes: It’s an honor to vote!

The radio broadcasting dress code is simple. Blue jeans, an old, un-ironed shirt, a hoodie and a ball cap. I love dressing for radio. Generally old shoes too because I may walk my dog Cheyenne in one of the canyons later in the morning.

That’s the attire that comes with  a 4 a.m. wake-up call to take care of those pre-dawn and daybreak news updates that lead up to SVI Weekday Wake-Up program.

The day of general election felt a little different for me. It had been a long election season and historic in many ways, let alone a presidential race that was too close to call on the day of the election. Amazing!

For me the stress level was high because that final decision affects Wyoming’s mineral based economy in so many ways.

I have another day-job that tracks that economy in every way because it spills over into our school funding, our state agencies and our local governments.

At this writing I don’t know the final outcome of the election but with all that’s at stake, I felt it important to drop the radio attire, run home and go with a business professional look — nice pants, dress shirt and a tie, less the suit coat.

Why? I wanted to dress up a little for the experience and privilege of voting. This election seemed more important than others, so I dressed up, met my wife at the polls and cast my vote.

What an in incredible honor!
