The Executive Director will also assist the WCSAB in its statutory duties.

“John’s education background, fiscal knowledge and experience working in innovative public education environments make him well qualified to ensure Wyoming’s charter schools are successful in their mission,” Governor Gordon said.

“I am thrilled to serve as the Executive Director of Charter Schools for Wyoming and have appreciated the warm welcome by the Governor and the Authorizing Board,” Wahler said. “I hope to utilize my three and a half decades in education to advance and coordinate the Charter School initiative in Wyoming.  I am a strong advocate for innovation, school choice and autonomy and am excited about contributing to this effort in Wyoming!”

Created by the Legislature in 2023, the WCSAB’s mission is to approve high-quality public charter schools in the state. The board’s eight members are from across Wyoming with a variety of professional backgrounds to ensure a wide breadth of input is considered as they work to enhance the availability of high-quality charter schools in Wyoming.
