Star Valley Branch Library is hosting a Book Ball on Friday, January 3, in the Afton Civic Center. With a theme of Midnight Masquerade, the ball is built around the books “The Phantom of the Opera,” and “A Court of Thorns and Roses.”
Families with children under 13 can attend from 4-6 p.m. (Children must not be left unattended.) During this time, there will be games, prizes, and dancing for children to enjoy. Teens and adults are invited from 6-11 p.m. when there will be dancing, snacks, frequent raffle drawings, a stylized backdrop for guests to take photos and more!
Attire for the event is formal, and masks are encouraged, but not required. In addition to dancing and raffles, guests can expect live performances from various local musicians.
We are a public service unit,” said Kestina Roberts, Star Valley Branch Library Youth Services Librarian, in an interview with SVI Media. “We try really hard to offer things that everyone will like to do. Though this is part of our Winter Reading Program, we’re not just about books. We like to do a little bit of everything. The Ball is just for fun. We’re doing a full ball.”
Guests are invited to pick up a raffle ticket when they arrive. Raffle items include a “Book Bouquet,” which is an entire book series. Additional raffle items include water bottles and a microphone.
“Everything is entirely free,” said Roberts. “You can come and go as you wish. It will be really fun. This is a great chance for adults to have a night to themselves. We are excited to bring back public dances like they had in the past. It’s a great way to get the community together.”
