SVHS Sports Recap: January 3-4

This weekend represented a winter sports restart for the sports teams at Star Valley High School with athletes coming back from the holiday break. Here’s a recap of how they did on Friday January 3 and Saturday January 4. 

Girls Wrestling:
The Lady Braves competed against 22 other teams at the Mountain Crest Filly Invitational on Saturday where they placed third overall with 154.0 team points. The ladies had nine placers at the Hyrum, Utah venue led by bracket champions Remington Aullman (135) and Veil Foreman (145). Cara Andrews also made the finals and placed second at 140 pounds. Keston Johnson (120) and Brooke Schwab (170) also made the top three of their respective podiums. 

The Lady Braves will be back in action next weekend in Idaho at the Madison Invite.

Kimball Parry placed second at 120 pounds at the Richardson Memorial.

Boys Wrestling:
Battling against 28 other teams at the Richardson Memorial at Box Elder High School, the Braves placed fifth with 126.0 team points. Kimball Parry (120), Tel Parry (138) and Grant Thomson (215) made the finals where they placed second. Kooper Burk advanced to the semifinals before pulling out of the tournament with a medical forfeit. Ty Thompson was Star Valley’s fifth placer as he finished fourth at 150. 

The Braves will also be at the Madison Invitational next weekend January 10-11. The Braves have a home dual against Rigby (ID) scheduled for January 14.

Emily Dana plays defense against Preston

Girls Basketball:
The Lady Braves traveled to Mountain Crest for a Friday night battle which tilted toward the home school in the second half in a final of 49-25. The girls then played their first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon versus the Preston Indians which ended in a 56-38 defeat. Emily Dana returned from injury to score 13 points and pull down nine rebounds in the effort. 

The two losses drop the Lady Braves to a season record of (1-7)

The Lady Braves do not have any games next weekend with their next contests representing the beginning of 4A West play on January 17-18 as Star Valley hosts Natrona County and Kelly Walsh from Casper.

Boys Basketball:
The Braves had their first home game on Friday night as they hosted the Mountain Crest Mustangs in a 47-37 loss. Cooper Lancaster returned from injury to score the game-high of 13 points. On Saturday, the Braves were on the road against Sky View in Smithfield, Utah where they loss to the Bobcats, 50-48. Dylan Shumway, Bryson Nield and Zane Hedges each scored eight points in the game. 

The Braves are also off from competition until January 17-18 as they host Natrona County and Kelly Walsh to open 4A West conference play. 

The two losses place the Braves at (1-7) overall on the season.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams will play their next four games in conference at home.
