Braves tie-up Tigers in 65-12 bout

In an early-week duel that had a little bit of everything when it comes to outside interference, the Braves were able to persevere and come away with a 65-12 victory on Tuesday in Rock Springs.

The SVHS team was forced to hunker down in their bus while RSHS went into lockdown for over an hour.  Area law enforcement searched the area before allowing the event to proceed. It was a one-sided Star Valley score but the Tigers were also battling what was a very long weekend road trip that included cancellations due to wind and other weather.

“Our effort was good,” Head Coach Eddie Clark told SVI’s Jason Hoopes. “We overcame a lot of weirdness today with the lockdown and sitting in the parking lot for an hour. That’s good; the kids need to learn to adapt. There’s no better place to be on a Tuesday night. It was a lot of fun to be back in a gym.”

Star Valley is sending wrestlers to Worland and Kemmerer this upcoming weekend. The Braves are enjoying a very deep team which will require more than the first handful of days to work through in regards to who is on the mat.

“The lineup you saw tonight isn’t the lineup we’re going to see at the end of the season,” he said. “We’re really thick in the middle and we’re just going to have to see who fits where. It’s going to be in interesting process. At some point we’re going to have to decide and there will be some really contested wrestle-offs.”

Clark also explained that after Christmas break the Braves will get to wrestle in Utah which is the first state in the country that will be utilizing different weight classes.

“There are more weights in the middle which is great for us,” he said. “We’ll have a little bit of a reprieve from our normal battles and then there will be some decisions that need to be made. As for tonight; just enjoy it and do the best you can. As long as the kids stay focused and support each other; We’ll go into this thing and feel it all out.”
