‘Easter full of hope’ – Local fundraiser for children in hospitals

Tanya Dejournett and Amy Bradfield Cox both had children treated at either Primary Children’s Hospital or Shriners in Salt Lake City. Dejournett’s son, Tyson, was born with a piece of his lung stuck in his diaphragm. Cox had two children born with clubbed feet.

All were successfully treated. And all remember feeling “as though we were family” when needing help at those facilities. So, to be part of a fundraiser to provide a special gift to children who must be in either hospital over Easter is personal.

Thus, an “Easter full of hope” is what a group of local Scentsy consultants  — including Dejournett and Cox — hope to offer children at Primary Children’s and Shriners this spring Through a fundraiser aimed at local businesses and individuals, these ladies hope to provide a “Scentsy Buddy” to each child at those medical facilities. And if there are more Scentsy Buddies than needed, to other hospitals with children.

“There’s something about Easter that’s special, that just brings hope for a promise for a new day,” said lead Scentsy consultant Denise Chadwick. “These kids at Primary’s or Shriners are people we may not know, but the perspective that I have is if I was in a situation where I had a child with medical issues, Easter is the time of year that can just bring hope.”

A Scentsy Buddy is a stuffed animal with a scent packet inside, a kids’ product by Scentsy, a national company through which independent consultant sells scented wax, wax warmers and other scented products for the home and office. There are currently eight Scentsy Buddies from which to choose — Disney’s Stitch, Marie, Thumper, Patch and Bambi, along with Frankie the French bulldog, Hedwig the owl and Domingo the donkey.

“Our goal is 800 buddies,” Chadwick told SVI Media. “My husband and I are taking the Scentsy Buddies in a 40-foot trailer. Our goal is to fill that trailer.”

Chadwick explained that the trailer is to be driven to Salt Lake City on March 30 — in time for Easter morning. “Something as simple as a Scentsy Buddy can give them a glimmer of hope,” Chadwick said, speaking of each child who will receive a “buddy.”

“If every family in Star Valley would order a buddy, we’d have over 3,000 buddies,” she added, clarifying that all leftover buddies will be distributed to various hospitals — including Star Valley Health — with children.

All proceeds from buddy sales through these consultants go toward the fundraiser, Chadwick emphasized.

“I’ve seen this community come together and literally pull one another up by the bootstraps for those who are in need,” Chadwick related. “I’ve seen children literally skip a [heart] beat when you give them a Scentsy Buddy. It’s not just the stuffed animal.”
