JustServe.org group in Star Valley asking community for help on finding service projects
A JustServe.org group in Star Valley is asking community members to reach out to them if they know of any service projects that can or should be listed on their website.
It started in 2012 and is an international organization spanning in Europe and in both North and South America. Volunteer Specialist Clint Rapier says they are just getting things jump started in Lincoln County.
“Recently we’ve helped with getting volunteers for the town cleanups in both Thayne and Bedford,” Rapier said. “We’re working with the American Red Cross heavily right now for blood drives in Thayne and Afton.”
He says they are really looking for more of these types of opportunities and hopes the community can play a hand in that. Other Volunteer Specialist with the organization is Deb Wolfley says they need guidance from the community on what should be on the website.
“Please contact us and we can help get that set up,” Wolfley said. “That would be a great asset to the community here. Because really it’s a win-win for the community, for groups, and for the people.”
You can reach out to them through their Facebook page or you can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wolfley also says justserve.org can not only help you or your group post about projects, but you can find local projects listed and volunteer to help. You can go the site’s homepage and enter your zip code to find projects.
“Basically, it’s a resource where a community can posts projects that need some help,” Wolfley said. “Then people who want to help can find that out.”
He says they can work with most projects, but there are scenarios where it cannot be posted on the website. Things like political action groups, partisan politics, religious instruction. He also says anyone that has a for-profit group is “outside our realm”.
“It’s really geared to helping non-profit, volunteer groups,” Wolfley said. “Or even government groups. We’d love to help the Forest Service, there’s some potential there.”
Rapier says an advisory council heads the website. So, leaders from other service organizations are involved.
“People like leaders from the Red Cross,” Rapier said. “Catholic Relief Services, from Rotary International, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Salvation Army, and several others make up this council.”
