Local rodeo athletes compete in Pocatello

• Junior and high school season continues

The Idaho District 8 High School Rodeo season continued on Saturday with another event in Pocatello. Local middle and high school age athletes competed.

A few of the high school highlights from the day include Afton’s Brooklyn Brown finishing fourth in barrel racing with a time of 15.944. Kaylee Leseberg of Star Valley Ranch also finished in the top ten, coming in seventh with a time of 16.104.

In breakaway roping, Payzli Nield of Afton took tenth place after a time of 6.840. Brooklyn Brown also finished top ten in Goat Tying, coming in ninth with a 11.620.

In the Pole Bending event two locals finished in the top ten. Kaylee Leaseberg was seventh after a run of 22.209 and Gracie Jackson of Etna was tenth with a 23.583. Brown and Nield finished in 11th and 12th respectively.

The Hilton and Kerr brothers from Afton continued their successful season in the team roping event. Tristen and Ross Hilton finished in second place in the event with a time of 8.560, just .03 seconds behind the first place team from Idaho. Ryder and Case Kerr came in fourth place with a time of 15.61.

Ross Hilton also finished in second place in Tie Down Roping with a time of 20.79.

Student athletes will compete in Montpelier, Idaho May 10-11. Star Valley will then welcome the district to a rodeo at the Lincoln County Fairground on May 17-18. Star Valley will also host the District Finals this year May 23-25.
