Missouri man hit and killed after standing on I-80 near Rock Springs

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed on I-80 east of Rock Springs Tuesday, March 12.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at milepost 133 around 5:37 a.m.

50-year-old David Mehal of Rock Springs was traveling eastbound when he came upon 30-year-old Mineral Point, Missouri resident Harold Stinson, who was standing in the interstate.  WHP says Mehal was unable to avoid Stinson, colliding with him before stopping on the shoulder of the roadway.

Stinson succumbed to his injures at the scene of the crash.  Impairment on the part of Stinson is begin investigated as one of the contributing factors.

Mehal was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

This is the 29th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2019, compared to 13 in 2018, 15 in 2017, and 10 in 2016 to date.
