River of Life offers Kids Movie Night this weekend

• Movie Nights will be offered every other month throughout the winter.

River of Life Star Valley is hosting a Kids Movie Night on January 19 from 6-8 p.m. in their building at 525 South Washington in Afton. Children ages three to 12-years-old are welcome for the evening where kids can enjoy a pizza dinner, songs and games with other children their age, and a movie with treats and popcorn.

Stacy Anschuetz, with River of Life, explained to SVI Media that there are two purposes to offering the movie night for local children. “First, we want to be able to provide a safe event for kids to have a fun, energetic gathering that is their own. Second, we believe marriages and relationships are important, and we understand that trying to find time and finances to go out on a date can be difficult. To alleviate some of these obstacles, we want to help out by providing a safe, inexpensive option for parents to drop their kiddos off and go enjoy some quality time together.”

When families arrive at the event, they can expect to begin with a check-in and payment station. As parents check children in, guests are invited to the children’s church area to play games and work on craft projects as they wait for everyone to arrive. Pizza is served and the movie begins at 6:15. Halfway through the movie, the film is paused, and everyone takes a bathroom break as needed. Wiggles are worked out with a couple of songs and dances, and then everyone settles in for the remainder of the movie where children receive popcorn and candy to snack on. At the conclusion of the movie, everyone joins in more song and dance as children wait for their parents to pick them up.  All the children will be kept in the sanctuary until their parents arrive, ensuring the safety of all the children in attendance.

“This outreach is offered to bless the children and parents of our Star Valley Community,” said Anschuetz. “Family is important to us at River of Life, and this is a way we are able to pour back into our local community. Please bring your children for a fun, safe evening!”

The cost for the evening is $5 per child and can be paid by cash, check or card upon arrival at the event. Anschuetz encourages parents to register their children so that River of Life can prepare an appropriate amount of food and treats. Please register online at rolmt.com/svmovie. Kids Movie Nights are offered every other month during the school year.
