Star Valley Spirit Squads will be competing in the State Spirit Competition this weekend in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center on Friday, January 26th, 2024.

The SVHS Brave Cadettes will be competing in 4A Jazz and 4A Hip Hop. After an impressive showing at last year’s State Competition placing 2nd and 4th last season, cheer will compete in 4A Gameday and Coed Stunt. Both teams were moved up to 4A for all categories last year and will compete against largely populated schools. Six Star Valley HIgh School students have been chosen for 4A All-State Team honors and will perform before the awards and at a UW basketball game halftime.

Dance:

The Star Valley Brave Cadettes are coached by Wendy Kabonic, Shanna Hurd and Stacey Rappleye.  They are the reigning 4A State Hip Hop champions placing first in last year’s Spirit Competition, which is the first time in school history that the team has won a 4A State title. They placed 3rd in Jazz, narrowly missing 2nd place by 0.3 points, showing improvement each year. The team has worked with the BYU Cougarettes for the past two years and attended team camp in SLC where the team learned several routines, trained with college and NBA dancers, and Senior and Captain Avery Kabonic was chosen as a top 5 “Top Corp” dancer for the 3rd year in a row. Coach Wendy Kabonic states “This team has shown a lot of growth over the past few years in their technique and now have the ability to put difficult fast paced routines on the floor at a faster rate which speaks to the year-long hours of commitment and training they put in.” The team is excited to attend state with their “sisters” and best friends.
