Star Valley Sno-Skippers are hosting a fundraising Cornhole Tournament December 30 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Extension Buildings in Afton. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Anyone and everyone is invited to attend and participate.

“The Star Valley Sno-Skippers was originally formed in the winter of 1990,” explained Marcus Sainz, SV Sno-Skippers President, in an email conversation with SVI News. “It was created by grandparents of current club members. The SV Sno-Skippers were re-established in the winter of 2018. The goal of organizing the club was to join with others to have some fun riding snowmobiles, create fun social events for the Star Valley community and to also work together to keep public lands open for our recreational use now and in the future.”

The public in Star Valley and surrounding communities is invited to participate in the cornhole tournament. “So far, we have had great participation from our community. We have had several people already sign teams up to participate in the tournament. We have also had several businesses show support for our tournament by donating items for a raffle drawing that will take place the night of the tournament.”

Club members, who meet monthly on the first Monday of the month, determined to create a fundraising event to build financial support for the club and its valuable services and contributions. They have worked together to plan a fun event that they hope will go smoothly and become a tradition in the future.

“The Sno-Skippers are a nonprofit organization,” said Sainz. “The money that comes from this event will go towards the top three winning teams that play in the tournament and the rest that we raise will go to the club to be able to host more events and to be able to continue donating to the Wyoming Snowmobile Association (WSSA) every year to keep public lands open.”

Several teams have signed up for the tournament and several businesses have donated items for the raffle. Community members are invited and encouraged to participate.

“We welcome teams that want to sign up to participate in the tournament and also people who just want to come watch and cheer,” said Sainz. If a team wants to sign up, they need to text Megan at 307-887-6279 or send an email to svsnoskippers@gmail.com before December 30 so we can get that team on the bracket. The entry fee will be $40 per team, and we will be taking the entry fee the night of the tournament at the front door.”

In addition to the raffle, information about the Sno-Skippers and the Wyoming State Snowmobile Association will be available at the event so community members can get involved with the club and their efforts to keep public lands open.
