SVHS ensembles earns Superior ratings


SVHS Concert Chorale received a superior rating at the Southwest District Music Festival last weekend.

• Seven SVHS music ensembles earn Superior ratings at Southwest District Music and Music in the Parks Festivals

Adam Bringhurst was honored as Outstanding High School Jazz Soloist at Music in the Parks.

Star Valley High School’s seven music ensembles all received Superior ratings at the Southwest District Music Festival held at SVHS on Friday and Saturday, April 24-27. Nine high school from throughout southwest Wyoming were represented at the festival.

The SVHS Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra and Concert Orchestra also attended the Music in the Parks Festival in Utah, where the Jazz Band emerged as the Overall Best High School Jazz Band, and the Chamber Orchestra emerged as the Overall Best High School Orchestra. SVHS Senior, Adam Bringhurst, was honored as the Outstanding High School Jazz Soloist of the Music in the Parks Festival.

Concert Chorale, Treble Tones and Singcopation all received Superior ratings at the District Festival. “The students sang their hearts out and did an outstanding job,” said Kari Allred, SVHS Choir Director, in a text to SVI Media. “I picked some tough literature because I knew they could do it! And they did! They tackled it and worked hard in rehearsals. It paid off and they ended up having some beautiful musical moments during the festival!”

“It was a busy week of music at the high school,” said Lisa Barber, SVHS Orchestra Director, in a text with SVI Media. “Wednesday evening, the Concert Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra both received ratings of Superior. Saturday morning, the Chamber and Concert Orchestras performed in Layton at the Music in the Parks Festival.” The Chamber Orchestra earned first place with a Superior rating and the Concert Orchestra took second place with a score of Excellent. “I am so proud of our musicians!!”

SVHS Jazz Band received a Superior rating at the Southwest District Music Festival and at the Music in the Parks Festival in Utah last week. They were also named the Best Overall Jazz Band at Music in the Parks.

 

“District music festival was another success for the band program,” said Kurt Sand, SVHS Band Director, in a text to SVI Media. The Concert Band and the Jazz Band each earned Superior ratings. For her Flute solo, Shelby Kisling also earned a Superior, and  Ryan Gibbons earned a Superior with his trumpet solo.

“It’s a little cliche to say I’m proud of these kids, BUT I am so proud of them,” said Sand. “They continue to strive for better and better performances. They sounded great!”
