(Video) Wetzel, Draney presented Cross Country Awards

Star Valley High School runner Habi Wetzel and Cross Country Coach Ty Draney were both recognized during a brief awards ceremony held at SVHS on Tuesday, March 5.

Wetzel, who had previously been announced as the 2023 Gatorade Boys Runner of the Year for Wyoming, was given his trophy and unveiled his banner. Athletic Director Rob Erickson outlined Wetzel’s accomplishments, including being a two-time individual and team state champion, going undefeated this fall in Wyoming competition and setting a course record in both Lander and Cheyenne.

In addition, Coach Draney was given an award for being named the Wyoming Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Mr. Erickson stated that Coach Draney has 17 state titles and 11 former athletes currently running at the collegiate level. “The school now has it’s 9th Gatorade player of the year,” said Erickson. “All of them have come from Ty’s program.” Draney remains a finalist for the National Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year from the National High School Coaches Association
