• Blacksmithing on the grass by the Pioneer Museum on Saturday May 18, 2024.
Provided by the
Star Valley Historical Society
Dee Hinck will set up his forge & anvil on the lawn by the Pioneer Museum for a demonstration of the art of hot metal works. Everyone will be welcome to heat up a strap of metal, then hammer out a useful item before it cools.
Please bring and share any old items that were forged in the good ol’ days by a skilled blacksmith of a day long gone. We will compile a list of the men & boys who forged out a living while keeping the iron tires rolling.
Local shops were a gathering place for swapping a good story or even a true tale. Arthur Pendry Welchman would walk from Grover to the Blacksmith Shop in Afton to post his latest edition of the “Mirror” with the news from up & down the valley. Saturday will be a good time for all tall tales to be shared. Come have a nice afternoon from 1-4 pm at Star Valley’s Museum Complex in Afton Wyoming.
