Five winners emerge at SVAC Chalk Art Festival

• Prizes included gift cards, passes and cash

Five of 21 entries emerged as winners in the Star Valley Arts Council’s First Annual Chalk Art Festival that took place in Thayne on Friday and Saturday. Winners took home a variety of prizes provided by generous sponsors and donors.

Artists spent two days creating their interpretation of the Theme “Heroes and Villains.” Professional chalk artist Nicole Kleinman participated and offered instruction throughout the event. Though the weather proved to be a slight challenge, pieces were judged and viewed by competitors and the public.

Ivory Weber took first place in the 8–12-year-old division for her piece titled “Pain and Panic from Hercules.” “Up to Greet the Sun,” by Elizabeth Erickson, took first place in the division for artists ages 13-18. Britt Hunting, with her piece, “Ninja Turtles,” won the first place ribbon for the 18+ Division. The Business Division first place winner was Jacz for “Minions,” and the Family Division winner was The Hirschi Family for “Stitch.”

Winners took home a variety of gift cards to Old Mill Ice Cream, Star Valley Station, Graze, Juan’s House of Tacos and Jacz, as well as passes to Puttz Mini Golf and a few hands full of cash.

“Thank you to the artists (and non-artists) who were willing to try something new and participate in our Chalk Art Festival,” said Lxi Weber, SVAC Executive Director. “We had a great two days creating together.  We were also very pleased with the number of community members who stopped by to view the art, and we hope that piqued interest for next year!”
