
Grant Thomson, a senior at Star Valley High School joined athletes across the nation making their commitment to play football at the next level on Wednesday. Thomson officially inked his name to play for the Black Hills State University Yellowjackets on after compiling an impressive career for the Braves.
A three-year starter at linebacker, Thomson earned All-State honors in both his junior and senior campaigns. The 2024 Wyoming 3A Defensive Player of the Year, Thomson led the team on defense with 58 tackles and 116 defensive points which included five tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
This past season, Thomson played more on the offense as well as he led the Braves in rushing yards (688) and rushing touchdowns (12). His most productive offensive outing was in front of the home crowd in Star Valley’s 52-35win over Cody where he rushed for 195 yards on 23 attempts and found the end zone twice. He also scored a touchdown in the Braves’ 20-7 win over the Broncs in the state title game, Star Valley’s third straight. The program is currently on a 21-game winning streak.

Grant is the son of Kyle, a former University of Kansas football player (1994-96) and New York Giants and New York Jets minicamp invitee, and Ehryn Thomson. He also has three siblings, Cloe, Emma, and Travis. Grant is currently a returning state place winner in wrestling for SVHS and is a standout at the 215-pound weight class.
Thomson joins class mate, Cooper Lawson, as SVHS players added to college recruiting classes yesterday. Lawson signed his letter of intent to play for the University of Wyoming in November.
