Star Valley High School senior, Jase Burton, has been named the Wyoming Gatorade Cross-Country Runner of the Year. It’s another accolade for Burton who has been on a roll over the past several months.
Burton won the Wyoming 4A individual state title as part of Star Valley’s three-peat in October. He had the fastest time of any runner in the state. He followed that up with a second-place finish at the NikeCross Regionals which earned him a trip to the NikeCross Nationals in Portland where his 17th place finish earned All-American status.
Burton has already added to his accolades during the indoor track and field season, breaking a 30-year old venue record at BYU and running the fastest two-mile time in Wyoming as he is now less than two seconds from becoming the first Wyoming runner to go under nine minutes in the event.
Burton joins a growing list of SVHS runners to earn the award for either cross-country and/or track and field. Hailey Ricks (twice), Peter Visser (four times), Shane Henderson, Wyatt Moore and fellow senior Habi Wetzel have all earned their own banners as well.
Burton is receiving interest from multiple schools for his career after high school but has not yet made a commitment.
