In a competitive dual that put the wraps on the 2024-25 regular season for the SVHS Wrestling Braves, Star Valley came out on top of the evening with a 40-28 victory over the visiting Evanston Red Devils on Thursday February 13.
Star Valley won the first six matches of the dual to lead 28-0 with pins from Ty Thompson (144) and Damien Burgess (175). Evanston got a bit of momentum as Taiton Mills narrowly avoided a tech fall from Star Valley’s Eli Matautia and wound up winning by pin despite trailing by 12 points in the second period.
One of the most entertaining matches of the night was at 120 with Star Valley sophomore Kimball Parry battling with Keith Shelton as Parry won in a hard-fought 7-2 decision. The Devils drew to within six points after a pair of wins at 126 and 132 but Tel Parry slammed the door with a pinball over Kolby Hamilton in the second period despite trailing 6-0 early in the match.
Prior to the match the Star Valley seniors were honored with their parents and family. This seniors included Damien Burgess, Kooper Burk, Darrell Hunting, Lane Hunting, Cameron Mickelson, Ty Thompson and Grant Thomson
Star Valley will now prep to host the 4A West Regionals on February 21 at SVHS in a one-day format. This is the first time since 2014 that Star Valley has hosted regional wrestling.
