Lady Braves three-peat behind titles from Aullman and Foreman; Parry Bros. win again

The Star Valley Lady Braves led wire-to-wire at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper to claim the program’s third straight team wrestling championship in the state’s third year of sanctioned girls wrestling. Star Valley won by nearly 100 points with 207.5 overall. Sheridan was second with 115.0. Kemmerer was third with 97.0.

Three SVHS girls made the finals with two of them winning championships. Junior Remington Aullman (135) had an exciting battle with Abrianna Liard of Rawlins. The two went into overtime tied 12-12 with Aullman collecting an extra-period pin to win. Aullman was a runner-up last year as a sophomore.

Cara Andrews battled with Kemmerer’s Kaylie Julander and had to settle for runner-up as Julander collected a second-period pin. Andrews won last year as a sophomore and has been to the finals all three years of her high school career as she was a runner-up as a freshman as well.

Senior Veil Foreman wrapped up her second undefeated season for the Lady Braves as she pinned Lander’s Andie Gibson in the first period to become Star Valley’s first two-time state champ for the girls program. Both Aullman and Andrews will have a chance to match that next season.

Other placers for the ladies included Carlee Angell (6th at 100), Kenna Merritt (5th at 105), Keston Johnson (4th at 120), Oakley Hepworth (4th at 130), Lillian Anderson (4th at 155), Brook Schwab (5th at 170) and Cashlee Hepworth (4th at 235).

STAR VALLEY BOYS –

The Braves finished fourth in the team scores with 165.0 team points. This is one spot higher than last season.

Thunder Basin was the heavy favorite to repeat and they did just that with a huge total of 304.0. Kelly Walsh was second with 190.5 and Cheyenne East was third with 184.5.

It was a great day for the Parry household as Kimball (120) and Tel (138) both won their respective brackets for state championships. Kimball, a sophomore, repeated for his second overall. Tel, a junior, claimed his third and will now be on watch to become Star Valley’s first ever four-time state champion next season.

Kimball fended off Dylan Sorenson of Kelly Walsh with a 4-2 decision. Tel also won by decision with a 9-4 score over Cheyenne Central’s Andrew Gonzalez.

Other placers for the Braves included Ty Thompson (5th at 144), Kooper Burk (3rd at 157), Damien Burgess (5th at 175), Ryan Talbot (4th at 190), Elijah Matautia (4th at 215) and Grant Thomson (4th at 285). Talbot and Matautia will be eligible to return next year as seniors.

LINCOLN COUNTY SCHOOLS –

Outside of Star Valley, the Lincoln County schools were also among the best in the state. The Kemmerer Rangers finished second as a team in the 2A classification with 187.5 points as Moorcroft won the team race with 211.5. The Cokeville Panthers finished in fourth place with 144.5 points.

Roany Proffit become the second four-time champion for the Proffit household, joining brother Donny on the rare list of accomplishment. Proffit won via a technical fall over Trey Breen of Tongue River. Graison Kelly also picked up a state championship with a pin of Samual Skelton of Thermopolis at 165 pounds. Owen Barton bested Cokeville’s Ryder Pope at 190 for the championship.

Other placers for the Rangers included Ricky Schneider (5th at 106), Abel Jimenez (2nd at 113), Austin Ruvalcaba (5th at 126), Noah Parks (6th at 150), Braxton Pope (4th at 175) and Bridger Anderson (2nd at 175),
