Jase Burton has been considering where his post-high school career would take him and he made his decision over this past weekend via an Instagram post and then made it official with a signing on Monday at Star Valley High School. Burton will run for BYU and a highly successful Cougar program.
Burton led the Braves to the team’s third straight 4A state cross-country title in October, winning the individual championship. He followed that up with a second-place finish at the NikeCross Regionals in Boise which earned him a trip to Portland, Oregon for the NikeCross Nationals. Among the top 100 high school runners in the country, Burton did more than hold his own, finishing 17th overall and earning All-American honors. He was also recently named the Wyoming Gatorade Cross-Country Runner of the Year. He owns the school’s 3200 meter school records in both the indoor and outdoor season and recently ran a 9:00.38 at the Simplot Games where he finished fourth.
Burton joins a cross-country program that won the NCAA National Championship in 2024 under coach Ed Eyestone. The Cougars also won the title in 2019 and were second in 2018.
Jase is the son of Bryce and Nicki Burton.
