Five spelling bee finalists to represent at state bee in Rock Springs

Five Lincoln County students in grades 6-8 have qualified to represent the county at the Wyoming State Spelling Bee in Rock Springs March 28-29 on the campus of Western Wyoming Community College.
Abbi Scherbel, who attends Etna Elementary School, is representing Lincoln County as the top spelling student in the county. Eli Jernigan and Lucy Ryerse, both from Kemmerer, are attending as second and third placers from the county spelling bee. Elsje Boogaard, from Star Valley Middle School (SVMS), is representing as the fourth place finisher, and Ari Groll of Cokeville completes the group as the fifth place speller from Lincoln County.
Spelling bee season began in LCSD No. 2 on January 15 when all students in grades 4-6 took a written spelling exam. The top ten scoring 6th grade students from that exam advanced to the oral district bee on February 5 where they completed with top 7th and 8th grade spellers from SVMS.
According to Cheyanne Wolfley, LCSD No. 2 Grants Coordinator, “The top six spelling students from the district competition advanced to the county spelling bee that took place February 25 in Cokeville. Both Lincoln County School Districts 1 and 2 had six spelling students compete for the five open Lincoln County spots in the Wyoming State Spelling Bee that will take place a the end of March.”
