University of Wyoming President Ed Seidel has been appointed as the chair of the Mountain West Conference Board of Directors, succeeding Keith Whitfield of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, who resigned his presidency last week. According to an established rotation, the UW president will chair the Mountain West Conference Board of Directors through academic year 2028.

“I am thrilled to take on this leadership role to strengthen and advance college athletics in the Mountain West Conference,” Seidel says. “Thanks to the leadership of Commissioner (Gloria) Nevarez and the Mountain West board, the conference is on solid footing as we look to the future.”
“I want to thank President Whitfield for his outstanding leadership during such a tumultuous time in college athletics,” Mountain West Commissioner Gloria Nevarez says. “President Seidel has been an integral member of the Mountain West Board of Directors for the last five years and will provide a smooth transition as the new chair of the board. He has a profound passion for the Mountain West and an unwavering commitment to supporting the academic and athletic pursuits of student-athletes.”
The Mountain West Board of Directors is entrusted with the authority and responsibility of managing the business and affairs, including policy, of the conference. The Mountain West Board of Directors consists of the chief executive officer of each member institution and two nonvoting, ex-officio student-athlete representatives from the Mountain West Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
