Area officials responded to a single-vehicle rollover near Alpine on Thursday morning between 7:30 and 8 a.m.
According to information provided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), there were no serious injuries but a significant amount of damage.
“This happened at mile marker 120 just one mile up the canyon,” replied Trooper Mike Merritt. “They were headed northbound and thought their vehicle was in four-wheel drive but they were in two-wheel drive.”
According to Trooper Merritt, the truck, a four-door, one-ton Dodge, had three occupants when it lost control on the road and hit a guardrail, destroying approximately 60-feet of the structure.
“The rail caught enough of the truck that it tipped it over on the passenger side,” he said.
The driver reportedly did lose consciousness due to a blow to the head. The impact was enough to detach the rear axel. Road conditions in the valley on Thursday deteriorated quickly the further north on U.S. 89 travelers went and slick conditions in the canyon combined with what is being described as the condition of the vehicle’s back tires were factors in the crash.
Citations were issued by the WHP at the scene. One person was transported for medical care to Alpine.
The Alpine Fire Department and EMS as well as the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were the first on the scene.
