On the afternoon of April 2, the Cokeville Police Department (CPD) made a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of 120 pounds of marijuana.
“Officer Davis Stocking was running radar on highway 30 and saw a semi truck doing 57 in the 40,” responded Chief Eric Whitehead. “The vehicle was stopped at mile marker 11 just outside town where he made contact with the driver and obtained his information. Officer Stocking believed he smelled marijuana and asked me to bring our canine, Dauntless, to the scene.”
According to Whitehead, Dauntless was deployed on the truck where he indicated the presence of drugs. Officer Stocking searched the tractor portion of the truck where he found six garbage bags and two duffle bags containing one-pound bags of marijuana inside for a total of 120 pounds.
The two occupants were taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Chief Whitehead, Officer Stocking and Dauntless represent the entirety of the CPD.
“I guess you could say the whole department was in on this one,” said Whitehead, who took over as Dauntless’ handler several years ago. The canine has been with the town for over six years.
Alexander Clerger of Oviedo, Florida and Christos Saintcyr of Haines City, Florida, were booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center on April 2.
