RIVERTON (WNE) — The Riverton Police Department brought in the bomb squad Wednesday after a local teen brought home mud-slicked grenades that he thought were toys, but turned out to be live weapons.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, a 15-year-old Riverton boy brought home an old box he’d found while walking along the Wind River, according to RPD.
“He opened the box and saw, what he believed, were toy hand grenades,” the department said in a release.
When the boy brought the box to his East Monroe home, his parents reportedly feared they were more than toys and called the police.
RPD officers cordoned off the area after reportedly confirming with the Natrona County Bomb Squad that they were not toys. Bomb squad officials responded and safely removed the items, RPD reported.
There were no injuries, and police are still investigating how the grenades ended up along the river.
