• April 16, 2025 Recap
The Thayne Town Council convened on Wednesday, April 16, to address several important community matters, including the Mid-Valley Fire Agreement and preparations for Arbor Day.
A highlight of the meeting was the discussion about Arbor Day, scheduled for May 13. Community members are encouraged to join at 6 PM for a 30-minute cleanup and beautification projects, after which dinner will be provided. The council also discussed purchasing two to three evergreen trees to enhance the town’s green spaces, which will be planted on Arbor Day.
The council expressed gratitude to Silver Star for sponsoring a new scoreboard for the baseball field, measuring eight by five feet, which is set to be installed this summer.
Plans are underway to repair the gym door at the community center, ensuring that facilities remain accessible to all residents.
In a significant move, the council approved a new radio system for the recently hired police officer, costing $5,244.58, to ensure reliable communication when the officer is away from the patrol car. With this new hire, the council will also discuss which ordinances the officer should enforce to enhance safety and align with the town’s objectives.
Mayor Simpson provided updates on the collaboration with Lincoln County Sheriff Shane Johnson regarding the transition to Thayne’s new police officer. He expressed appreciation for their support, which includes borrowing a radio until the town could purchase a new one and providing office space in Thayne for the Sheriff’s department. This partnership highlights their commitment to supporting the new officer and enhancing community safety.
To modernize and improve accessibility, the council has upgraded the audio-visual setup in the town hall meeting room. New cameras and wireless microphones will facilitate remote participation, allowing future council meetings to be streamed live on the town’s YouTube channel.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated by following the town’s announcements and participating in upcoming events.
