“Hallie [Hokanson], who was inspired by a teacher to do something for those students at Cokeville, approached me to see if we could do this fundraiser and I thought this was a great idea,” said Adam Baker, who advises the SVHS Student Council, in an email to SVI Media. “Hallie and the rest of the Student Council embraced the opportunity to help others out. I’m proud of their efforts and how they make our school and community a better place. We were so grateful for the students’ eagerness and generosity, and their willingness to support in any way they could.”
With special permission from the administration, the officer team sold concessions such as soda, candy, and cotton candy, and sold Hat Passes that gave students a ticket to wear a hat just for that day. In addition to raising the funds, the team created a large poster card for the student victims, and had it signed by hundreds of students at the high school.
“It’s events like these fundraisers that make small-town life so special,” said Council Member Ammon Baird. “I’m truly honored to support in any way I can.”
SVHS Student Council members then traveled to Cokeville High School to deliver the card and a check for $1210, which was accepted by the CHS Student Body President on behalf of the affected students and distributed as needed.
“It was super cool to have the opportunity to drive down and provide support to those affected by the accident, and do the best we could to show our love for Cokeville in any way possible,” said Council Member Bria Jack. “We love those in and outside of our community and want it to be known that we are here in times of need to support to the best of our ability.”
“It was incredibly special to see our high school students so ready to jump in and help,” said Hokanson. “We’ve worked to create a culture of support and unity at our school as well as our district so it was so awesome to see everyone join together in their efforts.”
