Music students in the Band, Orchestra and Choral programs at Star Valley High School traveled to Evanston last week to participate in the WMEA District Music Performance Assessments (formerly known as Music Festival).
“It was a fantastic week for our music students at SVHS,” said Kurt Sand, SVHS Band Director.
Nola Simpson and Shelby Kisling performed a flute duet and Kisling performed a flute solo with both performances garnering Superiors as well.
The Concert Chorale, Treble Tones and Singcopation Choirs were evaluated by two adjudicators in seven different categories. Treble Tones and Singcopation each received two perfect scores while Concert Chorale received one perfect.
“The judges had wonderful things to say about the SVHS choirs and were so impressed with them,” said Kari Allred, SVHS Choir Director. “The students have worked very hard the past couple months and it all paid off! I am so proud of their performances. Each choir just nailed it! Concert Chorale and Treble Tones performed very challenging pieces and rose to the challenge. The pieces also featured many soloists, and they all did such a great job.”
The SVHS Concert Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra each received a Superior rating with one of the adjudicators giving The Chamber Orchestra a perfect score. Solo Strings scores included Marty Burch, who received an Excellent. Hunter Randall, Thomas Randall and Evelyn Andrus each received a Superior for their solo work.
Lisa Barber, who directs the SVHS Orchestras said, “The adjudicators commented on how much they really enjoyed listening to our groups play and were so impressed with the quality of our music program.”
