Authorities apprehended a man after a multi-hour search when he allegedly decided to flee the scene following a two-vehicle collision in the narrows on Monday.

Officials and first-responders arrived near the Auburn junction of US 89 near the narrows at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday after the report of a two-vehicle collision. The suspect continued to drive approximately 200 yards after the initial collision. A witness on the scene stated that he exited his vehicle, ran across the highway and down the embankment and across the river.

During the scene, a white male allegedly fled the area into the swampy portion of the narrows surrounding the Salt River. In the hours that followed, officials from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, pursued the man who was the subject of a LC Sheriff’s Office Facebook post stating that those in the area should not approach him as he was considered dangerous.

Officials emphasized that he was never near any structures and was never an immediate threat to any homes or residents. Officials’ biggest concern was that he may attempt to re-cross the river and be picked up by a passing driver according to the WHP.

The Star Valley Search and Rescue was also called into the scene to assist as the search party endeavored to traverse the area where the suspect was last seen.

Just after 6 p.m., the subject was taken into custody by law enforcement. According to the Lincoln County Detention Center, Robert “Bobby” Duerr of Alpine was booked on charges of DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, improper lane change, driving with a suspended license.
