• Three juveniles in vehicle, minor injuries reported
Three female juveniles were transported to Star Valley Health with minor injuries after their vehicle rolled into the water up Swift Creek Canyon Monday afternoon.
Afton Police Chief Jason Romberg said the individuals were driving down the canyon towards Afton when their vehicle rolled into the creek, landing on its top, roughly one mile from the mouth of the canyon.
“The driver said she was intentionally drifting and lost control,” Romberg said. “The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.”
According to Romberg, the three individuals were taken to Star Valley Health where they were treated and released.
The accident occurred at roughly the same time as another accident in the narrows area of Highway 89 that involved a hit and run suspect. The two crashes occurring simultaneously tested the depth of emergency responders.
“Luckily if too much is happening up here we can actually roll dispatch calls into Kemmerer,” explained Captain Brian Andrews with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office during a live interview on SVI Radio, discussing the way Lincoln County Dispatch handles situations where multiple incidents are happening at the same time. “When stuff like this happens we get numerous calls. It’s a busy time there and we’ve got a great bunch of dispatchers in there that do that job.”
