
• District 8 competes in Afton this Friday and Saturday
The spring schedule of the high school rodeo season continued in Montpelier, Idaho over the weekend, with a rodeo held on Friday, May 9 and another on Saturday, May 10.
Finishing in the Top 10 and earning points in the standings on Friday, Bridget Scaffide of Alpine took fifth while Brooklyn Brown of Afton finished tenth in Barrel Racing. In the Goat Tying event Taylar Nate of Cokeville finished tenth. Jill Jackson of Etna finished fifth in Pole Bending followed by Gracie Jackson of Etna in sixth. Payzli Nield of Afton took ninth in the same event.
Also on Friday Ross Hilton of Afton, teamed with Kruz Smith of Montpelier, once again won the Team Roping event while Case & Ryder Kerr took third. Kutler Keetch of Cokeville finished fourth in Tie Down Roping, with Case Kerr in fifth.
On Saturday, Scaffide won the Barrel Racing event with a first place finish and Brown in seventh. Brown finished fourth in Breakaway roping, followed by Nield in fifth, Sage Smith of Smooth in sixth and Scaffide in seventh. Brown also finished fourth in Goat Tying, Jill Jackson in ninth. Gracie Jackson was seventh in Pole Bending, Jill Jackson tenth.
Hilton and Kruz again won the team roping on Saturday. Cinch Pope of Cokeville with McKade Crane of Montpelier came in third while the Kerrs finished fourth. Daxton Pope, Kutler Keetch and Case Kerr finished second, third and fourth respectively in Tie Down Roping.
Local rodeo athletes will be able to compete in their home arena this weekend, with two rodeos being held at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. The first Friday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. and the second on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. Junior High athletes will also be competing. The rodeos are open to the public and free to attend.
Heading into the home rodeos this weekend, local high school athletes in the Top 5 of the event standings include Scaffide in fourth in Barrel Racing, Hilton and Smith in first in Team Roping followed by the Kerrs in second. Hilton also currently sits fifth in the boys All-Around.
Following the Wyoming rodeos this weekend, the athletes will compete next weekend at the District Finals held in Grace, Idaho.
