One person was transported to Star Valley Health after driving over an embankment and into a pond near Alpine Wednesday evening.

The Alpine Fire Department says they were dispatched to the scene at 5:14 p.m. as they were already on site at a crash in the Snake River Canyon. AFD said two firefighters remained at the original accident to continue traffic control while other responded to the second incident with a rescue vehicle.

The driver had gone off the north end of Stateline Road, through a buck rail fence and into a pond. When emergency responders arrived, the driver was out of the vehicle but was unable to walk. AFD said they commandeered a john boat that was already on scene and were able to contact the driver and assist Star Valley Health with packaging the patient and row to a suitable location to transport him.

The Alpine Fire Department said the man had to be loaded into a stokes and a low angle rope operation was used to get him to the road for transport.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Star Valley Search & Rescue also assisted in the operation.
