• Proceeds go toward paying fees to participate in the dance program
Star Valley High School’s award-winning dance team, The Brave Cadettes, has created a fundraiser in which they are selling coupon cards that feature discount offers from various local businesses. Proceeds benefit members of the team as they work to pay various costs associated with participating in the program.
The coupon cards offer various types of discounts from 20 local businesses. Some discounts are year-round and usable each time a guest enters the business, or they are BoGo or percentage discounts. Businesses are participating free of charge, as it drives foot traffic to their location.
The cards include discounts for restaurants, vehicle service, beauty salons, food service locations, home, garden and farm locations, and many more. The team is hoping to adopt this fundraiser as an annual opportunity to help the community members save a little cash and provide businesses with a little more traffic while they earn cash for their dance expenses.
Brave Cadette Head Coach Kyli Scherbel loves the practical element of this fundraiser, and expressed her contentment with the plan. “We always want to support our kids [with fundraisers], but we don’t always need what is being sold. This way, we can do both. The community can support the kids, and they can have something that’s useful for an entire year. I really love this.”
With the variety of options on each coupon card, folks of all interests and ages can find value there. “I think it will be great for families and high school kids, and it gives the businesses great advertisement, and they are so willing to participate.” In addition, it’s a tremendous help to each dancer on the team. “It really helps these girls. Dance is expensive in general, and we are needing so much money to compete.”
Each Brave Cadette is responsible for a significant portion of the fees needed for uniforms, footwear, competition fees, training tuition and more. Though the school covers most costs for music, travel, lodging and choreography, a significant portion of the costs falls to the participants and their families. “This fundraiser is a huge help for those girls and it’s a lot of fun.”
To purchase a coupon card, community members are encouraged to contact a Brave Cadette or Coach Scherbel directly. If you don’t know a dancer on the team, Scherbel suggested that social media is a great recourse to connect with someone who is selling the cards.
Each card sells for $20. Sales are expected to close at the beginning of July, though the fundraiser may extend depending on demand. Each dancer should be carrying a set of cards and can reorder her card supply as needed.
“This fundraiser is something we are banking on for a lot of help and so we really appreciate all the support,” said Scherbel. “This community’s support is unheard of. It’s just nuts how supportive this community is. I am amazed at how kind people are.”
The team is grateful for continued community support as they strive to represent Star Valley with dignity and grace. “We love the community, and we are trying really hard to make them proud in our actions on and off the floor, in how we dance and how we represent ourselves. We are trying really hard to make sure that we are a positive influence on the community and all the little kids that look up to our girls. We want everyone to know that we love them, and we appreciate their support. We promise to work hard to represent everybody well and make a good name for Star Valley.”
