• Saturday Superheroes is proof that even in the face of adversity, this valley rides strong together

This summer, a powerful program rooted in compassion, courage, and community returns to Star Valley. Saturday Superheroes, a free equine-assisted initiative offered by Horse Warriors™, is back to bring healing and hope to local cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Saturday Superheroes provides participants with meaningful, uplifting experiences with horses—no riding experience needed. Activities include everything from peaceful walks through a friendly herd to light-hearted barrel racing and engaging obstacle courses. For many, these moments offer far more than recreation—they become part of a journey toward emotional and physical renewal.

“Even on the very first day attendees feel a sense of being heard and understood,” says Priscilla Marden, Executive Director of Horse Warriors™ and a breast cancer survivor herself. “It’s heartwarming to see how quickly a spirit of camaraderie develops.”

The program kicks off the first Saturday in July and continues most Saturdays through September. Open to residents of all abilities, Saturday Superheroes is designed to be flexible—attend once, several times, or every week. Art supplies, safety helmets, and lunches are provided at no cost.

One participant from last year shared, “Now I feel like I am living my life in color again.” It’s that kind of impact—emotional reawakening, connection, and community spirit—that keeps this program thriving.

What’s more, Saturday Superheroes is made possible through local support, with funding from the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative and the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, ensuring that cost is never a barrier for Star Valley families in need.

Local volunteers, including familiar Star Valley faces, are the backbone of the program, contributing their time and heart to create a warm, welcoming environment. This is more than a program—it’s a testament to what a close-knit community can accomplish when it comes together with purpose.
