On June 28, Main Street will come alive with food trucks, vendors, and live music. “We’re excited to see the community come together for these events,” Sanderson stated, urging everyone to join in. The Elkhorn 5K will also take place that Saturday, along with numerous other activities. Families are encouraged to enjoy the celebrations, including bounce houses for kids, while exploring the unique offerings of Main Street. “We have great businesses and wonderful owners doing fantastic things downtown, and everyone should take advantage of that.”

The 4th of July festivities will feature a Heritage Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Civic Center at 10:00 AM, honoring notable inductees Rose Ray and David Horsley. The day will culminate in a parade at 5:00 PM, with registration available online through the town’s Facebook page and website. The evening will conclude with the Star Valley Search and Rescue Rodeo and a spectacular fireworks show.

In addition to the vibrant community events, Sanderson provided updates on several important infrastructure projects. The town has procured materials to resurface all ball fields at Simplot and Canyon View Ball Fields. Plans are also in motion to convert the Canyon View tennis courts into pickleball courts, with bids currently being accepted.

The sewer lagoon project is ongoing, and two new projects on Adam Street are underway; however, all initial bids were rejected, with new bids due by June 12. Maintenance for street projects is planned, with bids due by June 26.

Sanderson also discussed the Corridor Study, which will start traffic counts in July. The council is working on plans to demolish the Los Cabos building to improve connectivity between town parking and Main Street.

Finally, updates on the Intermittent Spring were shared, noting that reconstruction efforts followed a rockslide last year. While the trail may look different, Sanderson assured residents it remains just as beautiful.

As Afton prepares for a vibrant summer, Sanderson’s updates reflect a commitment to community engagement and infrastructure improvement, promising an enjoyable season for all.
