The Star Valley Arts Council’s fourth annual Children’s Summer Theater Camp is producing “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” this week with performances Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 18-20 at 6 p.m. in the Ford Theatre. Nearly 80 local children between the ages of 6 and 16 will take the stage with several other children serving as lighting, sound and stage technicians.
“This is our biggest group of kids yet,” Director Tina Crowther told SVI News. “We have kids coming from all over the valley, Alpine to Smoot!”
Rehearsals began in May for principal leads in the show, and the chorus hit the stage at the beginning of June. They have worked on lines and songs and have participated in making portions of the costumes. “We have dancing flowers, talking playing cards, a full tea party, and more!”
Crowther is assisted by Katie Thygerson and Kathryn Harris as directors, and Jessica Rasmussen as an assistant director and choreographer.
“I think I say it every year, but this is a really great group of kids,” Crowther said. “They keep surprising me with their ability to learn songs, choreography and put a full show together in such a short time. One of my biggest goals for kids performing on stage is for them to share their joy, by smiling big! By the final number, I promise you’ll see a lot of big, beautiful, happy smiling faces!”
