Family Day will be one of the highlights the 2025 Mountain States Stockdog Association (MSSA) June 16-21 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Afton.

Family featured activities will include a bounce house, water slide and face painting on Saturday, June 21.

The bounce house and water slide will be open from 10 am. to 2 p.m. Face painting will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All events will be located on the large grass field south of the main arena.

“The association is very family focused,” explained Sheri Wight with the MSSA. “I have kids that worked hard all week long during the dog trials and it started as a day for them to have fun, but as it has evolved, [family day] is all kids working at the finals, to have something for them to enjoy.”

Wright said the family day event has now grown and she is extending an invitation for families attending MSSA to watch the competition to also enjoy the family day activities.

Wright says family involvement at MSSA has been increasing at the annual event that is celebrating a 10th anniversary this year.

“We’re seeing more youth involved with the junior handler class,” she said. “Some that started as youth are now in their teens and going on to enter in the novice and adult classes”

She again emphasized an open invitation for families to come and watch the event.

“I hope they take the opportunities to come and see what it’s about,” she concluded. “The handlers have worked hard all year long and this will be an incredibly cool event to watch.”

A variety of food services will be offered during the whole week.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
