The 2024-25 high school rodeo season came to a close for local athletes last week following the Idaho High School State Finals Rodeo in Pocatello. A total of seven cowboys and cowgirls from Star Valley and Cokeville competed in the state finals.

In Team Roping, Ross Hilton of Star Valley and his partner Smith Kruz of Bear Lake finished just shy of a trip to the national finals. The pair missed on two of their three runs, but did well enough to qualify for the short go, which they won with a time of 5.770. The time put them in 5th place overall, with the top four qualifying for nationals. Case and Ryder Kerr of Afton also qualified for the Short Go in Team Roping but missed in the final round.

Other qualifiers who qualified for the state finals but did not advance to the Short Go include Bridget Scaffide of Alpine (Barrel Racing), Brooklyn Brown of Afton (Breakaway Roping), Clay Teichert of Cokeville (Bull Riding), Kutler Keetch of Cokeville (Tie Down Roping) and Case Kerr (Tie Down Roping).

The National High School Finals Rodeo will take place July 13-19 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
