SVI Radio Interview: Ryan Lyman, Lincoln County Fair Preview
Lincoln County Fair Board member Ryan Lyman stepped into the SVI Radio studio on Thursday, July 31 to preview the entertainment at the Lincoln County Fair, taking place August 1-9.
(0:00) As we’ve been talking about this morning, (0:02) Lincoln County Fair opens up tomorrow, (0:04) runs all the way through next week, (0:06) first through the ninth. (0:08) And Ryan Lyman, he’s a member (0:10) of the Lincoln County Fair Board, Overseas Entertainment. (0:12) Ryan, good morning.
(0:13) Good morning, Duke. (0:14) How you feeling today, the day before? (0:16) I am spry and ready to go. (0:18) Good, good for you.
(0:20) Considering how much work goes into this thing, (0:22) and especially the scramble here down the stretch (0:25) for your concert act, I wanted to start with that. (0:28) When the news comes across from Easton Corbin’s team (0:31) that says, hey, guess what, he’s sick, (0:34) and he’s gonna go on vocal rarts. (0:35) Heart just sinks.
(0:36) I mean, I can’t even imagine. (0:38) Yeah, it was a bit of a rollercoaster there for a minute. (0:42) Exciting and all of that.
(0:45) I can only imagine. (0:46) But it all comes out in the end with Chris Lane, (0:50) who, I mean, let’s be honest. (0:52) Oh, super excited.
(0:53) Easton Corbin had three number ones. (0:55) Chris Lane has three number ones. (0:56) Same number of top 10 hits.
(0:58) I mean, you’re exchanging greatness for greatness here. (1:01) We are. (1:02) Unfortunately, obviously, we hate to see Easton, (1:06) and we don’t wish him well with his recovery, (1:10) but we are super excited for Chris Lane.
(1:13) Glad that their team has been working very quickly (1:16) and helping us, and a lot of folks on our team as well (1:20) that we’re super thankful for. (1:22) Yeah, well, it seems like people are pretty excited, (1:25) as they should be, to have Chris Lane as the replacement. (1:28) I don’t know how you guys pulled it off.
(1:29) Yeah, the reception has been, honestly, just miracles, (1:33) I think, really. (1:34) I don’t know how else to explain it. (1:37) But yeah, we’re excited.
(1:39) And the response, you know, we’re (1:41) just grateful for the community kind of also kind of rallying (1:44) around us because we get it. (1:46) You know, it’s not the ticket you bought, (1:49) but the response has been really, really good. (1:52) We’re just thankful for that as well.
(1:54) Of course, the tickets purchased for Easton (1:57) are honored for Chris Lane, right? (1:59) Yeah, and we’re encouraging everybody (2:00) to take a look at Chris Lane, if you’ve never heard of him. (2:04) You may not recognize the name, but if you Google him (2:07) and look up some of his chart-topping singles, (2:11) I think it’s going to be an awesome concert. (2:13) Absolutely.
(2:14) Tell us about the opening act. (2:16) It sounds like he’s really starting to catch fire, too. (2:19) Yeah, yeah, Zach John King, yeah, just a young guy (2:23) kind of starting out.
(2:24) And yeah, we’re excited for the whole show. (2:27) It’s going to be going to be really good. (2:29) Perfect.
(2:30) Monday night is the country concert with Chris Lane, (2:33) and that’ll kick off at 7 o’clock with the opening act. (2:36) And then Chris Lane will take stage following that. (2:38) All right, Ryan, let’s go through this thing.
(2:40) What’s happening? (2:40) You, of course, oversee all the on-the-grounds entertainment (2:43) and everything that happens, our big top, tiny top (2:46) on the grounds. (2:46) I’m kind of excited for this opening weekend (2:48) because you have the new Adventure Zone, Bounce House, (2:52) and Waterpark this year for three days to open things up. (2:55) Yeah, and if you’ve driven past, you kind of (2:57) see them starting to set up.
(2:58) They’ll be opening tomorrow at 11. (3:00) So they’re going 11 to 7 for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (3:04) It’s free.
(3:05) We’re just hoping families come out. (3:07) There’ll be some of our vendors and food options (3:10) available already. (3:12) And of course, we’ve got the car show Saturday also.
(3:14) So come out and see the car show. (3:17) You got the Bounce House going on. (3:18) And yeah, like I said, it’s free.
(3:20) Hoping to have a good family option there. (3:23) And emphasizing it does continue into Sunday this year, right, (3:27) for that water park. (3:27) It does, yep.
(3:28) It’s 11 AM to 7 PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (3:32) Perfect. (3:32) Fair parade Saturday at 5. (3:34) What do you have in the main arena Friday, Saturday? (3:37) So Friday night’s the Enduro Extreme Moto Enduro.
(3:42) And that’s a crowd-pleasing event. (3:46) They’re going to be building track today. (3:49) So that’s going to be exciting and energizing, I believe.
(3:53) Very cool. (3:53) Ryan Lyman in studio, Fair Board member (3:55) with the Lincoln County Fair Overseas (3:56) On the Grounds Entertainment. (3:57) Let’s talk about the Big Top, Ryan, (3:59) and some of the entertainment you have.
(4:00) I’ve looked up some of the music acts. (4:02) Yeah. (4:03) And I was like, I can’t believe we’re getting these people just (4:06) for free to go get a burger and sit there and eat it.
(4:08) Exactly, yeah. (4:10) And a couple of things, we try to take input (4:13) from the community and change things up a little bit. (4:15) So they won’t always just be playing onto the Big Top.
(4:18) All of the acts are going to switch (4:20) between the Tiny Top and the Big Top throughout the week. (4:23) And so if you like getting food down on one end of the Midway, (4:27) you’ll have music down there and back and forth. (4:29) And we got comics and magicians and a lot of good things (4:33) for the kids.
(4:34) Yeah, I am super excited about our music lineup (4:37) under the tents. (4:40) Cal Tucky, what do they call it? (4:44) Jam Grass. (4:46) So excited for that.
(4:47) It’s just a four-piece bluegrass-style band, unplugged. (4:52) But upright bass, mandolin, banjo, guitar. (4:57) And they rock it, too, with the bluegrass, (5:00) but very, very good musicians.
(5:04) Yeah, the Sterling Drake Band. (5:07) Brennan Scott Green, he actually plays (5:10) a guitar and the didgeridoo. (5:12) No, at the same time? (5:14) I think so.
(5:16) So that’s pretty cool. (5:17) He’s a country music songwriter. (5:22) What’s unique, I think, about all of these musicians (5:27) is they are our songwriters.
(5:29) And man, some of their lyrics are just so good. (5:32) And they’re storytellers. (5:34) They’re blue-collar people.
(5:37) They got families. (5:39) And so they’ll fit right in here in Star Valley and Lincoln (5:42) County. (5:43) Next weekend, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, (5:46) one of the acts, let’s see, trying to find it here.
(5:50) I’m going to have him on the morning show. (5:52) Logan Mack. (5:52) Logan Mack.
(5:53) Yeah, Logan Mack’s going to join me on the air next week. (5:55) And he mentioned that. (5:57) Oklahoma boy.
(5:58) He’s got a full-time job trying to make it as a musician. (6:01) He’s bringing his whole family out to Lincoln County (6:03) to go to the fair. (6:05) And he is fantastic.
(6:07) He is. (6:08) As far as lyrics goes, man, he has (6:11) got some heart-wrenching stuff. (6:14) But yeah, he’s just down-home type of guy.
(6:17) I mean, he’s worked construction, been an operator, (6:21) oil field. (6:22) He’s just, yeah, he’s a hard-working family man. (6:25) Got the Mariachi Band back this year as well, right? (6:28) Coming back.
(6:29) They’ll be in the Big Top and the Tiny Top. (6:31) Yeah, super excited for them as well. (6:33) Perfect.
(6:34) Ryan, you mentioned there’s going (6:35) to be some more of the novelty acts coming, (6:37) kind of the comedy shows, juggling shows. (6:39) And of course, the big favorites, the hypnotists, (6:42) you have Chris Mabry coming back. (6:43) Chris Mabry.
(6:44) And of all of the hypnotists we’ve had, (6:46) he’s the most requested. (6:48) It’s just hard for us to sometimes with scheduling, (6:51) we always try and have a hypnotist. (6:53) But yeah, Chris is coming back.
(6:54) And we’re very excited to have Chris back. (6:57) Yeah, we got some comic magicians. (6:59) We got an impressionist who is super good.
(7:04) He has a lot of good impressions that he does. (7:07) And kind of a comedy show there as well. (7:10) Perfect.
(7:10) And of course, on the final Saturday, (7:11) it’s all about the tap classics every time, right? (7:15) Local talent and a lot of families (7:17) come out and support them. (7:18) It’s so good to see all those from little kids (7:23) all the way up. (7:24) Every age group comes out and performs.
(7:26) And it’s a really good community event. (7:28) Fantastic show. (7:28) So all that entertainment, absolutely free, (7:31) Big Top, Tiny Top.
(7:32) Also some kind of roaming around the grounds acts. (7:34) Yeah, there’ll be some magicians out around on the grounds (7:37) and stilt walking and all that good stuff (7:40) that you see at the fair. (7:41) Perfect.
(7:41) Ryan Lyman in studio, Lincoln County Fair Board member. (7:44) Ryan, anything else entertainment wise (7:46) you feel is worth mentioning here? (7:48) We’re going to have the truck pulls again Saturday, (7:50) this coming Saturday night. (7:52) And then three nights of rodeo, PRC rodeo.
(7:56) I don’t know if anybody’s checked out (7:57) some of the cowboys that are coming and cowgirls. (7:59) Wow. (8:00) They are high ranked, high earning, (8:04) cowboys and cowgirls.
(8:05) A couple of top 10 people. (8:07) Yes, absolutely. (8:09) Yeah, they’re crushing it right now.
(8:10) And we’re excited to have them with us. (8:12) One other act, the Axe Women of Loggers of Maine. (8:17) So these are lumberjills that axe throwing and log rolling.
(8:22) And so that’s going to be a pretty cool show. (8:24) We got a equator’s edge it’s called. (8:26) So this is different animals from south of the equator, (8:32) basically around the equator.
(8:33) So maybe some animals you haven’t seen before. (8:36) Absolutely. (8:36) So and of course, it’s worth mentioning as well, (8:41) a lot of these acts are here for multiple days.
(8:43) But if you go to the fair on a Monday, Tuesday, (8:45) it is not the same fair on Thursday, Friday, right? (8:48) I mean, you got to come back. (8:50) Yep. You got to come back.
(8:51) We try and change up the different acts and whatnot. (8:53) So absolutely. (8:54) Find the full day by day complete schedule online at Lincoln County Fair dot info.
(8:57) You can also get it all in one sheet in this week’s edition (9:01) of the Star Voting Independent Fair Board member Ryan Lyman in studio. (9:04) Ryan, anything else we missed? (9:06) You’d like to mention today? (9:07) Not that I don’t. (9:08) There’s so much.
(9:09) There’s so much I can’t have it all memorized, (9:10) but just appreciate the support of SVI Media, the Fair Board (9:14) and a lot of volunteers and people working behind the scenes (9:17) that you just don’t know about. (9:20) And man, we sure appreciate all these folks and and just want to say thank you. (9:24) I can’t even imagine the combined number of hours of volunteer work.
(9:27) It would be just. (9:29) Yeah, it would be it. (9:31) I got to get a spreadsheet out for that one.
(9:33) Astronomical amount. (9:34) Ryan Lyman in studio details at Lincoln County Fair dot info. (9:37) It all starts tomorrow for this year’s 2025 Lincoln County Fair.
