Members of the Thayne Fire Department were on the scene of a small grass fire in Turnerville on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2 p.m. Members of the department were told by homeowners that a small burn pit had spread to a nearby grassy area. A quick response from the Thayne firemen kept the fire from spreading to trees near the home and other nearby grass fields.
It is the second such fire response in the last few weeks for area firefighters after the Afton Fire Department were on the scene of a similar incident in the Osmond area on July 23.
A Red Flag warning is in effect for the area this week as warm dry conditions and gusting winds are making certain instances prime for a wildfire. Temperatures this week are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s this week with only a 20-percent chance of precipitation on Friday afternoon in the forecast.
