SVI Radio Interview: Lxi Weber, Star Valley Arts Council

Lxi Weber, Executive Director of the Star Valley Arts Council, called into the Weekday Wake-up on Tuesday, August 19 for her monthly report. Weber promoted the upcoming Plein Air event in September and the Portrait and Landscape Oil Painting Workshop in October.

(0:00) Joining me live over the phone right now is Lexi Weber, Executive Director of the (0:05) Starbody Arts Council for her monthly report. Lexi, good morning. How are you today? (0:09) Good morning.
I’m great. How are you? Hey, doing well. Appreciate your time as always.
First, (0:13) I think we got to go back to last weekend. Seemed like another great turnout and great (0:17) year at the Alpine Art Festival last weekend. It was really great.
We had over 20 vendors. (0:24) We had a lot of attendees. All of our vendors said they did really well with sales.
We had (0:30) crazy weather. Sometimes it was really, really hot. Sometimes we had hail.
We had rain. But (0:37) overall, we had good weather and we had a really great weekend. (0:41) Awesome.
Love it. Absolutely love it. I look forward to that event in the future.
And of (0:46) course, another great event that’s fairly new still, at least it feels like it’s just a couple (0:50) of years old, but really gaining some nice traction is the Annual Plane Air Event. That’s (0:55) coming up again in September, right? Yes. This is our fourth year doing the (1:00) Plane Air Event.
It’s going to be held from September 13th to 20th this year. (1:06) And what it is, is we’ll have artists from all over the country come to Star Valley for the week. (1:13) You’ll see them on the side of the road or in parks or on Main Street.
They just set up and (1:18) they start painting their favorite scenes from our valley. And then at the end of the week, (1:22) all of the paintings will be gathered for a two-day show and sale at the Western Skies Fine (1:27) Art Gallery. So we want to encourage the community to come out and see those paintings.
It’s really (1:34) fun because they’ll recognize all the places. It’s fun to have all these paintings from Star (1:39) Valley. And then new this year, we have a guest judge who is Shanna Kuhn.
She’s from Utah. She’ll (1:45) be doing some painting demos that weekend. It’s during the sale and show.
And that’s going to be (1:53) open to the public. And so we’ll have more information about the time and place for each (1:57) of those on our website when we have them. But we also have spots if anyone is interested in (2:03) participating as an artist, there’s still time to sign up for that as well.
So there’s just (2:07) more information and registration information on our website. Perfect. StarValleyArts.org is where (2:12) you can find the details on Star Valley Plain Air coming up next month in September.
And then (2:17) after that, Lexi, in October, the Portrait and Landscape Oil Painting Workshop, correct? (2:23) Yes. So we held the same workshop back in March and it was just for portraits. (2:29) And then we’re expanding it this time because the techniques are the same for either subject.
So (2:35) we’re really excited about this. It’s a week long. It’s going to be from October 6th to 10th.
(2:41) It will go from 9 to 5 every day. And we’re still working on a location, but we’ll add it (2:46) to our website as soon as we have it. The attendees will paint a portrait or a landscape.
It’s in the (2:52) old master style. We did this. Well, let me go back.
All skill levels are welcome. But because of (3:04) the techniques that are used and the methods, everybody at our last workshop was very successful. (3:11) They had really amazing paintings by the end.
These techniques just make everything more (3:16) understandable and easier. So we’re really excited about that. This workshop is $600 for the week.
(3:24) And then you can find more information and register on our website. (3:28) Again, excellent. StarValleyArts.org. That’s Lexi Weber, Executive Director of the Star (3:34) By the way, Lexi, while we have you, I’m really looking forward to seeing that mural come together (3:38) on the Thane Community Center.
I know the winner was recently announced for that. (3:43) Yes, I am so excited for this. I’ve been driving by it every day to see if they’re (3:47) starting it.
But yesterday they had a list there. And so I know that they’re really close. (3:53) The design that they picked was really perfect.
I know that they chose it specifically because (3:58) it had all of these nods to Thane. Thane doesn’t get a lot of recognition on its own. (4:05) And so this design is just really perfect.
It features cutter races, (4:11) fishing, a cheese factory. There are a few things in there that are just really, (4:16) really cool and unique. So it’s going to be great.
(4:19) Looking forward to it. Lexi Weber, Executive Director of the Star Valley Arts Council. (4:22) Lexi, as always, thank you very much.
And we’ll talk again next month. (4:26) Thank you. (4:26) It’s the Weekday Wakeup this morning on the SBI Radio Network.
