What could have easily become a serious situation turned into nothing more than some burned grass and bushes after a fire was quickly contained by the Afton Fire Department Wednesday.

AFD was dispatched to a residence in Grover just before 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival they found the fire burning on the hillside next to a home and other outbuildings. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames before the fire spread to the home, other buildings or continued into dry vegetation both in the valley and the hills behind the property.

Logan Wilkes, Assistant Chief with the Afton Fire Department, said the cause of the fire was due to cleaning out a charcoal grill with old ashes.

Vegetation in the valley and surrounding areas remain in a critically dry state, prompting fire restrictions on all county, forest service and BLM land.
