A commercial zoning ordinance and a resolution allowing for equipment purchases were approved by the Star Valley Ranch Town Council at their September 9 meeting.

Ordinance 2025-07 Land Usage updates to commercial zoning regulations moved forward on first reading, specifically addressing what will be allowed for conditional use permits.

“Star Valley Ranch has four commercial lots next to the town hall,” said Mayor Ru  Rock. “They have been vacant since the town was incorporated approximately 20 years ago and they were purchased earlier last year.”

She explained, “We have been talking with the developer and looking at ways we can make it a little more development friendly based on our current regulations.”

One change in regulation would allow for a living quarters at each location.

“We made additions that would allow for a dwelling place above, but it would be conditional and still go through an approval process,” she said. “We may make some changes along the way.”

Approval came at the September 9 Star Valley Ranch Town Council meeting.

The council also approved a Resolution at the same meeting codifying a road improvement plan with the necessary equipment purchases.

“In our budget we put aside a million for road improvements.” she recalled on an earlier town council decision.  ‘We were…doing asphalt on Vista Drive and were doing chip seal.”

The earlier plans called for contracted projects but the mayor credited the work of staff for a cost saving plan. “We had anticipated contracting that work out, but along the way the town staff came up with an amazing plan.”

The mayor advised the plan would include using the skills of  existing town staff with newly approved equipment.

Rather than a planned expenditure of $1 million, the town council approved $120,000 for equipment purchases through Resolution 25-09-09-003 Implementation of Chip Seal Improvement.

The resolution allowed for the purchase of a tar truck, roller and other equipment for road upgrades and maintenance.
