
The Star Valley Braves had four of the top seven overall runners as they claimed first place in the 4A West Regional Cross-Country meet on Friday in Casper with a team total of 35 points. Kelly Walsh was second with 68 and Natrona County was third with 82.
Colton Cranney took the regional championship by nearly 27 seconds with a time of 15:55.76. Natrona County’s Champ Ransom was second with finish of 16:22.03. The top ten was dominated by the Braves with Brigham Hahn (4th), Sullivan Wilson (5th) and Luke Harris (7th) all earning all-conference.
Lexi Longhurst of Kelly Walsh took the girls individual championship with a time of 19:17.25 on what was essentially her home course although the race was technically hosted by Natrona County at the Paradise Valley Golf Course in Casper. Star Valley’s Gracey Visser crossed the line second with a time of 19:38.57. Teammate Kelsie Dunne was sixth overall with a time of 20:17.80 Both girls earned all-conference with their performances. Evelyn Scharmann, Carlee Angell and Tylita Bond rounded out the scoring five for Star Valley, all finishing in the top 13 runners.
Kelly Walsh took the team title over Star Valley but not by much as they finished with 36 points buoyed by four finishers in the top eight. The Lady Braves were second with 44 and Jackson was third with 86.
The SVXC teams will now travel to Cheyenne and the course at the Little America for the 2025 Wyoming State Championships where the Braves will be looking to extend a current three-peat of 4A team titles. Cranney will have the opportunity to extend a Star Valley individual champ for the fourth straight year as well, with Habtamu Wetzel and Jase Burton combining to win the last three. As a program, the Braves have had the individual boys champ in eight of the last nine seasons they have raced with five of those coming in the 3A classification and the last three in the 4A classification.
• Junior Varsity Champs
In addition to the varsity performance, the Star Valley JV claimed a pair of first place finishes in the meet as well with the boys scoring a near-perfect 20 points and the girls scoring 52. Evanston’s Wyatt Reese won the boys JV race with a time of 17:51.44. Star Valley had the next five finishers of Carter King, Jonah Finch, Kade Linford, Gabe Mathews and Caleb Anderson. Tel Parry was also eighth overall.
The Lady Braves’ JV had McKayla Baker and Reagan Skinner place fifth and sixth with Emry Kennington placing eighth.
