A two-vehicle accident occurred east of Afton, just after 11 a.m. on Monday October 20.

According to information provided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), a half-ton GMC pickup was headed eastbound toward Afton on Highway 238 while a half-ton Chevy pickup was traveling northbound on County Road 198 and failed to stop at the intersection, resulting in a collision. The incident occurred near mile post 11, west of Afton.

The WHP as well as the Afton Fire Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Afton Police Department were on the scene as traffic was narrowed to one lane during the process.

According to the WHP, neither driver was wearing a seat belt and were transported for a medical evaluation. The status of any potential injuries is unknown. The driver of the Chevy pickup was issued a citation for failure to stop and both drivers were issued a citation for lack of seat belt usage.

“We would encourage people to buckle up every trip, every time,” said Trooper Seth Schulthess. Even if you have a short trip. You never know when something like this might happen.”

  1. Unless the ground shifted since I was last in Afton, the intersection of Nield String and Allred Lane is on the west side of town, not the east side. Maybe you meant to say one of the vehicles was traveling east at the time?
