For the past several months, the trustees of Lincoln County School District #2 have examined several options about the future of the unified school calendar for Star Valley schools. During this time they received feedback from constituents as well as participated in a work study to examine the options.
As part of the regular board meeting on Wednesday, November 12, the board approved a motion to direct the LCSD #2 administration team to craft a 4-5 day hybrid calendar.
This is similar to the current calendar and the direction is only for Star Valley schools. The calendar discussion has no bearing on Cokeville schools.
Citing student safety and the potential adverse circumstances other calendar options may put on support staff, the recommendation will include one, five-day week per month with the goal of avoiding back-to-back five-day weeks. The total instruction hours for the calendar would be similar to the current instructional total with minimal differences.
Other options included a straight four-day week and a traditional five-day week.
The length of the day for elementary aged students and the challenges of the transportation schedule were key factors in the board’s discussion.
The motion was approved unanimously by the board.
The LCSD #2 administration team will now take that direction and craft a calendar for approval. According to Superintendent Matt Erickson, action on the crafted calendar is expected to take place during the January 2026 meeting.
If approved, the calendar would then go to the state board for approval. Implementation would be for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.
