A Salt Lake City, Utah man has been identified as the person who led police on a high speed chase through Afton and Smoot Wednesday morning before rolling his vehicle on Highway 89.

Deo Patrick Danhounsrou, 25, has been booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center in Kemmerer on charges of aggravated flee or attempt to elude police, property damage, reckless driving, speed too fast for conditions and possession of a controlled substance.

The chase began at roughly 7:45 a.m. after a traffic complaint was called into local law enforcement regarding a silver Subaru driving at high speeds southbound on Highway 89. The caller reported that the driver of the Subaru was passing into oncoming traffic in a very unsafe manner near Grover.  According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Danhounsrou continued driving through Afton at a speed of roughly 90 mph, sideswiping two moving vehicles near the Elkhorn Arch as he attempted to split them in his direction of travel.

Speeds exceeded 100 mph south of Afton where the pursuit continued through Smoot. Danhounsrou eventually lost control of his vehicle south of Smoot near mile post 72, rolling at least four times. He was attempting to crawl out of the vehicle as law enforcement arrived, where he was promptly taken into custody. According to law enforcement, Danhounsrou declined receiving any medical attention.

The incident remains under investigation. Lt. Kyle Thomson with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no impairment was detected in Danhounsrou.
